OPPORTUNITIES FOR MUSIC SCHOLARSHIPS
If you are considering a post-secondary education in music, there are multiple scholarship opportunities. In fact, there are currently more than 500 different music scholarship awards offered at universities in Canada and the United States alone, not to mention those that are also available in other countries.
The majority of these awards are given to students who have excelled at their high school studies while developing their musical abilities — primarily through performance, but in some cases through other areas of music like composition, electronic music, and production. Usually scholarship awards reflect the values of the donor, and can range from a few hundred dollars to the payment of all of your tuition fees.
Potential areas of post-secondary music studies are not limited just to performance — nor are they limited to a few playing styles or musical genres. North American universities, for instance, offer a rich diversity of music-related programs that include composition, performance, jazz studies, musicology, music history, therapy and education. More information in this regard, as well as references for scholarship applications, are always available to my students.
