ROCK GUITAR ~ ITS HISTORY & HEROS
There’s no genre in the history of music that’s as multifaceted and divergent as Rock. Born out of a mix of Blues, R&B, Jazz and Country, it took off with the arrival of Rock & Roll and has never looked back. Since the early days of Chuck Berry and the advent of his quintessential guitar hero, Johnny B. Goode, this highly-energetic style of music has thrived on the talents of brilliant guitarists who have defined the sounds upon which it has grown and diversified.
In the ‘60s, guitar giants like Jimi Hendrix and Eric Clapton helped start a revolution that was jacked-up on electric guitars and mega-amplifiers. Soft Rock, Heavy Metal, Latin Rock and Experimental guitarists in the ‘70s, including David Gilmour, Jimmy Page, Carlos Santana and Frank Zappa, broadened and enriched the musical spectrum.
Rock in the ‘80s and ‘90s featured guitarists like Joe Satriani, Paul Gilbert and Steve Vai, who brought their own unique talents to the genre. It would be remiss not to mention one more iconic figure, Keith Richards, who co-founded the Rolling Stones in 1963 and has been performing and recording at the pinnacle of his profession for almost 60 years.
